D. Anthony Calafati—1/26/2021 • Updated

D. Anthony “Tony” Calafati passed away on January 26, 2021, at the age of 95, in his hometown of Lansdale, PA.

Tony was the oldest of four sons born to Philip and Frances (Raffle) Calafati.  Upon graduation from high school, Tony served his country in World War II as an Army Paratrooper in the 101st Airborn, much to the dismay of his mother who didn’t understand why he wanted to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

Upon return from his service, Tony met and married his wife, Jean (Fondarvest) Calafati, and they soon welcomed their daughter, JoAnn (Calafati) MacDonald. Tony held a life-long career at the American Olean Tile factory and also served as a Justice of the Peace in Lansdale. Upon retirement, Tony continued his service as a member of the Coast Guard Auxilary and enjoyed spending time patrolling Lake Nockamixon.

As the oldest son of an Italian family, Tony’s pride and joy was always his la famiglia. He will be missed beyond words, as is his wife, Jean, who predeceased him. However, a piece of him lives on through his daughter, JoAnn, his granddaughter, Shelly (Capano) Patterson and his three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Reese and James Patterson. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Calafati and his wife, Teri; brother, Philip Calafati and his wife, Joan (predeceased), and brother Frank Calafati, also predeceased.  He is further survived by nephews, nieces, and many, many cousins—some of whom are named Vinny. Because every Italian has a cousin named Vinny.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation on 9:30 am, Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at St. Stanilaus Church, 51 Lansdale Ave, Lansdale, PA 19446. A Funeral Mass will follow the Vistation at 10:30.
