Dorothy Reckner–10/6/2017

Dorothy H. (McGinley) Reckner, age 87, of Towamencin Township, PA passed away on October 6, 2017 at Gwynedd Square Nursing Center where she resided since January, 2017.

Born to the late James McGinley and Helen (Rooney) McGinley in Brooklyn, New York on July 19, 1930 Dorothy attended Catholic schools there and was employed as a secretary at Metropolitan Life in New York.

She met her late husband Charles, a Hilltown native, in Brooklyn, where they married on April 18, 1959 at St. Cecilia RC Church. The couple moved to the Lansdale area in 1963 where they were devout members of St. Stanislaus Parish initially, and then founding members of Corpus Christi Parish. She was an active member of the church choir and the Legion of Mary.

Dorothy was the devoted mother of five children: Patrick (Carolyn) of Lansdale, Helene Coopersmith (David) of Glenside, Paul (Vicki) of Harleysville, Charlotte DiNenna (Salvatore) of Bridgeport, and Loretta Molnar of Conshohocken, grandmother of 14 grandchildren and great-grandmother of four. In addition to her husband Charles, Dorothy was preceded in death by an older sister, Theresa (McGinley) Hanson.

Dot enjoyed being with friends and family, looking forward to holidays, parties, picnics and other family gatherings. She had a “sweet tooth,” and enjoyed live music, poetry, TV sitcoms, flower gardens, trips to the beach, swimming, and walks in the park. She knew all the old tunes and could be counted on to remember the words and melodies of the old favorites.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, October 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St. Lansdale, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on October 12 following a viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, PA.

Contributions in Dorothy’s memory can be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor at Holy Family Home, 5300 Chester Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19143. Arrangements are by Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home in Lansdale.
