Joseph S. Yemola—10/21/2022

Joseph S. (“Joe”) Yemola, 92, of Lansdale, PA, passed away at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital on Friday, October 21, 2022.

Joe (affectionately referred to as “Jake” among long-time friends and family) was born March 19, 1930, in West Hazleton, PA, to parents Louis Yemola and Catherine (Kapinos) Yemola.

Joe enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and served his country with honor and distinction for 4 years in Korea and Japan. Following his service, he attended and earned his degree from Penn State University.

Joe married Dolores (Pancerella) Yemola on November 8, 1959 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Shenandoah, PA. Joe and Dolores lived in Reading, PA during the early years of their marriage before moving to Lansdale, PA in 1963. They had two children, Lou Ann Yemola (Tom McGuire) and Joseph A. Yemola (Marci Yemola). Joe worked his entire professional career until retirement as an engineer in the testing department at ICI Americas (subsequently Akzo Nobel) in Valley Forge, PA, earning numerous commendations, recognitions, and leadership roles.

Joe was a loving and devoted family man to his wife and children. He was a staunch fan and supporter of his Penn State Nittany Lions football team, attending games and rarely missing a Saturday afternoon cheering them on from his home. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially golfing, fruit-picking, and other outdoor sports and adventures. Most notably, however, he was a skilled and expert fly fisherman and was known to have frequented countless fishing streams near and far. He was never hesitant to hop in his car and drive to remote locations in search of the perfect “spot” to cast his fly rod.

In his later years, Joe enjoyed baking (his cheesecakes were legendary among those that had the pleasure of trying a piece), shopping at farmers markets, and entertaining with family and friends. Joe and Dolores were known for making everyone feel welcome and comfortable in their home. No one ever left their home hungry, empty-handed, or without a feeling of warmth, care, compassion and love. His already large heart opened up endlessly with the birth of his beloved granddaughters, Nadia and Mila Yemola (Joe and Marci) and his grand-dog, Kona. There was little in the world that he loved more than watching Nadia and Mila grow up and spending time with them.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Yemola, daughter Lou Ann Yemola, and his 8 siblings. Joe is survived by his son Joseph A. Yemola (Marci Yemola), granddaughters Nadia and Mila Yemola, his daughter Lou Ann’s long-time partner and love Tom McGuire, numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and dear friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, PA at 2:00pm. Visitation will precede the Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals using the following link: ASPCA Memorial Gift

Private burial at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont, PA will occur at a later date.

  1. The Yemolas were dear family friends of my husband’s! They were always kind, loving and generous with us and our children! Eating at their home or finagling a recipe from Joe was a treat! They will be greatly missed and forever loved

  2. Sweetest man, loved his family like crazy…his presence on earth will be missed along with Delores, Lou Ann and Joe always.
