Bertha McKinney Knorr–2/9/2020

Bertha McKinney Knorr “Bert, Grans”, age 80, passed away peacefully at Abington Lansdale Hospital on Sunday, February 9, 2020. Born and raised in NE Philadelphia, she lived in Lansdale with her daughter since 1991 and at Schwenkfeld Manor for the past 15 years.

Bert grew up in St. Bartholomew’s parish and attended St. Huberts HS for girls graduating in 1957. Bert enjoyed being a school crossing guard at Unruh and Cottage Streets for 20 years. She was also a dedicated volunteer with Girl Scouts and Vogt playground, running many programs from aerobics to snack bars and assisting with league schedules. Her volunteerism carried with her when she moved to Lansdale helping as a classroom aide and at CYO snack bar at St. Stanislaus. She also worked at Friendly Food Market in Lansdale for many years. Once at Schwenkfeld Manor, she again jumped right in and volunteered for numerous activities particularly the hospitality program.

Bert will be remembered most for her laughter, humor and listening skills. Throughout her life she was a magnet for her children and grandchildren’s friends, opening up her home even when family wasn’t around for anyone who needed a friendly ear, chocolate chip cookies or other home baked delights.

Bert is survived by daughter, Margaret “Peg” Tierney of Lansdale, David M Knorr (Donna), Philadelphia, grandchildren: Stephen (Jennifer) Tierney in Drexel Hill, Kate Knorr in Charlotte NC, Bridget Jackson (Matthew), Phila; Maggie Tierney, Lansdale; Dylan Knorr at PSU and great granddaughter Violet Tierney.

An only child, she was pre-deceased by her parents Edward P and Bertha (Bond) McKinney, former husband David G Knorr and son in law Stephen A Tierney.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Saint Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Avenue, in Lansdale with a visitation period from 9:00 am to 10:45 am. Burial Services will be private.  Services are handled by Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of your choosing would be welcomed.
