Memoriam: Anthony A. Schepperd – age: 97 (January 04, 1921 to September 22, 2018)

Funeral Information: Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian of Burial on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Rd., Hatfield, PA 19440, where the family will receive friends from 9 to 10 AM, prior to Mass. . Interment will be at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont.

Obituary: Anthony A. Schepperd, age 97, of Hatfield, died September 22. 2018 at the Birches at Arbour Square in Harleysville. Born in Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Anthony Schepperd and Anne Hill.

He was a long time resident of Hatfield, Pa, from 1955 till 2000.  He then lived in Perkiomenville, PA.

Anthony was a World War II Veteran, as a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He served in the Pacific, spending time in New Guinea as well as the Philippines. He was a graduate of Villanova University class of 1954 with a Bachelor degree in Science in Economics. His profession was as a purchasing agent and he retired from Leeds and Northrup in North Wales in 1982.

He was a long time member of St. Marie Goretti Parish in Hatfield and in his later years, a member of St. Phillips in Pennsburg, Pa. He was a devoted Philadelphia sports fan watching and going to games with his family. He also loved music, especially the Philadelphia Mummers string bands.   

Anthony was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Dorothy Theresa (Keating) Schepperd, his sister Anne and his daughter Dolly Butler. Surviving are his two sons Albert A. Schepperd and Daniel J. Schepperd; five grandchildren, William, Michelle, Renee, Tony and Recce; six great-children and one great-great grandson.

  1. Grandpop, as I called him, was a big part of my life having spent a lot of time with him when I was young. He will be missed. I want to think of this as a celebration of life given how long he has lived a full life dedicated to his country and family, having generally good health and being surrounded by family who loved him. He got to see all of his favorite Philly sports teams win championships including the Eagles and Wildcats this year! I was glad that I got to see the Eagles win the Superbowl with him….that was awesome!
