Joseph V. Phillips

Joseph V. Phillips, age 91, of Lansdale died peacefully Friday, March 23, 2012 at his home.

Born and raised in Jessup, PA., he was the son of the late John Michael and Anna Veronica (Cuercko) Phillips.

Mr Phillips was a proud career US. Marine and was Captain of the Marine Corps Pistol Team. He retired as a Major in 1966. Mr. Phillips served bravely in WWII in the Pacific Theatre with the 3rd Marine Division  where he participated in many engagements including the Battle of Bougainville.   After retirement from the Marine Corps, he settled in Lansdale where he started work as an Assistant Manager with the  Fidelity Bank of Philadelphia at the Hillcrest Shopping Center branch.  He retired in 1983 as Assistant Vice President of the Bank.  Mr. Phillips served as President of the Montgomery Co. Bankers Association and Chairman of the Junior Achievement Program which mentored young people for work in the business world.

He was a member of Pius 9th Council Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club both of Lansdale.  Mr. Phillips became an avid golfer when he moved to Longwood, Florida in 1985 where he lived until recent years.  He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Lansdale..

His beloved first wife Anna Valentina (Mazonkey) Phillips died in March of 1982.  He is survived by his loving second wife Meta (Sparks) Phillips; five devoted sons; John and his wife Patricia of Jeffersonville, Michael and his wife Elaine of Lansdale, Thomas and his wife Louise of Macungie, Stephen and his wife Christine of Coopersburg and Christopher of Royersford, 6 grandchildren; Jeffrey Phillips and his wife Rachel, James Phillips and his wife April, Anthony Phillips, Ashlee Phillips, Stephen Phillips and Amy Phillips, a great grandson Ryan Phillips and 2 sisters  Genevieve Kelly and Anna Dougher.  In addition to his first wife he was preceded in death by a brother, John and a sister Rita Domowitch.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday evening, March 28, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM and Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:45AM at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., Lansdale  followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Ave, Lansdale, PA. 19446 at 11 AM Thursday. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joseph’s name to St. Stanislaus Church (address above) would be preferred.
