Herbert J. O’Connor

Herbert J. O’Connor, age 91, of North Wales passed away peacefully May 18th at St. Mary Manor, Lansdale where he had been a resident for 6 years.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Herbert and Kathryn Donahue O’Connor.

Herb graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia and attended Temple University studying metallurgical engineering.

He served in the US Army during World War II at the US Army Air Force Base in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Herb began his working career at the Budd Company in Northeast Philadelphia as a draftsman and mechanical designer of commuter railcars where he was a member of the United Auto Workers union.  He retired after 42 years with the Budd Company in 1982 and enjoyed traveling, gardening and cross country skiing. Most of all he was a man of great faith who enjoyed life and cherished his family.

Herb was a longtime and active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in North Wales and belonged to the Pius 9th Council Knights of Columbus in Lansdale.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 65 years, Marie T. Kelly O’Connor, his devoted children,
daughters Susan M. Lowery and her husband Matthew of Hatfield, Joanne C. Holahan and her husband Philip of Grafton, MA., and Patricia A. Hunter and her husband Gregory of Wrentham, MA., and his son Robert J. O’Connor of Statesville, NC.  Herb is also survived by his six treasured grandchildren Evan, Shawn, Tim, Katie, Ryan and KJ and two great grandchildren Brendan and Connor, and his sister Marie Rumaker and her husband Bill of Thorofare, NJ.

He was preceded in death by sisters Kathryn O’Connor and Marguerite Szkolnicki.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Thursday, May 24th at 11AM in the Chapel at St. Mary Manor, 701 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA. 19446 where the family will receive friends Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:45AM. Interment will be at St. John Neumann Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St Mary Manor (address above) .
