Frank McDonnell—7/24/2017

Frank E. McDonnell, 81, of Lansdale, Pa. passed away peacefully on July 24, 2017. Born in Dunmore, Pa. Frank was the son of the late Frank and Mary (nee Grossman) McDonnell and brother of the late Gerard J. McDonnell. After graduating from Dunmore High School, he attended Princeton University on a Naval scholarship.  He continued his education and received his Master’s and Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Catholic University in Washington DC.

Frank served his country honorably with the United States Navy until 1970 reaching a rank of Lieutenant.  While working for the National Security Agency in Washington DC, he received the Legion of Merit given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements from 1958 to 1961.  In 1963 he married, and relocated to Lansdale and accepted a position at American Electronic Laboratories where he eventually became Vice President.  He then became CEO of Optimax Inc. He was the beloved husband of Ildiko McDonnell (nee Pulvari) for over 54 years.  He was the devoted father of three children Mary Jo Haggerty (husband Kevin), Frank E McDonnell and Michael J McDonnell (wife Angela) as well as grandfather to 6 grandchildren Ryan, Michael, Caitlin, Shane, Megan and Kayla.


Family and Friends are invited to the viewing at Simcox McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., Lansdale, Pa on Sunday July 30th from 6 to 8pm, or the Funeral Mass at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church 1325, Upper State Rd., North Wales, PA.(in Montgomeryville) on Monday July 31st at 11AM. There will also be a viewing at the O’Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore, Pa. on Tuesday August 1st, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM at (St. Mary Church) Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, 322 Chestnut St, Dunmore, Pa.  Interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Dunmore.
