Matthew C. McNamee—3/13/2017

He had a great sense of humor and his laughter was contagious.

Matthew C. McNamee, 23, of Lansdale, died peacefully on March 13, 2017 after a 23 month fight from a traumatic brain injury. He was born September 28, 1993 in Norristown, PA.

Matthew majored in Broadcast Multimedia at Temple University where he produced, wrote and hosted the Matty Mac Radio Hour on WHIP. He was a 2012 graduate from Lansdale Catholic High School and a 2008 graduate from St. Helena grade school. Matt lived his life with a passion that as many of his friends have stated left them happier and better than they had been before knowing him. He loved being on stage and entertaining people especially through his love of all music. Making people laugh and making them feel welcome was his greatest joy. His sense of humor and his laughter was contagious. Matt had many nicknames – Matty Ice, Matty Mac and SuperMatt. Each had special meanings depending on who he was with. Adversity never stopped Matt, it would just compel him to work harder to achieve his goal. Matthew’s faith was an inspiration to all who knew him. His motto was “everybody love everybody”.

Matthew is survived by his parents Bernard and Kathleen (Drea) of Lansdale; his brother Patrick and future sister-in-law, Danielle Vitorla and his dog Teddy. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Jim and Theresa Drea of Norristown as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He joins his paternal grandparents, Patrick and Josephine McNamee and his Aunt Rosey Dodaro.

Family & Friends are invited to his viewing on Friday, March 17th at Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446 from 6pm-9pm and another viewing Saturday, March 18th at St. Helena RC Church, 1489 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell, PA 19422 from 9:30am-11am followed by his Funeral Mass at 11am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Matthew’s name online to MossRehab https://advance.einstein.edu/donatenow or mail MossRehab, Office of Development, Braemer Education Building, 5501 Old York Road, Philadelphia, PA 19141.

  1. Rest In Peace in the arms of the Angels Matty Mac & be happy in the knowledge that your family are close to you & God always.. As a Mum, I still can’t help but shed tears but I know they are for your nearest & dearest as you are free from pain and eternally in grace. I’m sorry I only got to know you under such sad circumstances but you strengthened the faith in God in so many people and everything I have learned and watched about you is so like some one of us here 🙂 and you will be loved in my heart forever! God Bless xx <3 From your cousin Siobhan Mc Dermott (nee Mc Namee) and all your extended family from your Grandad's (Uncle Paddy) birthplace.

  2. Kathy i had heard about Matt’s accident and thought of you often. Remembering when we were pregnant together and our boys being born on the same day. My heart aches for you and your family. May all your precious memories comfort you.

  3. To the McNamee family- we only had the pleasure of meeting your beautiful son one time but he touched us deeply. May he rest in peace and you find comfort in one another during this difficult time.

  4. To the McNamee Family…I had the pleasure of meeting you and Matt at MossRehab. You graced Moss everyday with hope, kindness and compassion. Through every challenge, you never gave up and found a bright spot in everyday. You all had the ability to give of yourselves to staff and other family members. We knew that your room was a comfortable place to come and laugh, cry, hug and sometimes just chat. Kathy, When I think of Disney, I will always think of you and your family(especially Minnie ears).
Wishing you all peace in this difficult time.

  8. RIP Matt. We never met, but as a McNamee, I have followed your story over the last 23 months, and hoped and prayed you would make a recovery. You are at peace now. Your family can be very proud of everything they done for you. Go and join the McNamee party already in heaven, I am sure they are having a ball together. Enjoy being with family past, and one day you will all be re-united again. It is a given Matt, nothing anyone of us can control. Love and hugs McNamee’s, Worcester, UK

  10. Your friends have shared the many ups and downs during the past 23 months….praying faithfully and shedding tears at some of your FB posts. As a mother, I cannot imagine what this has done to your heart. The obituary above fills in so many blanks as many of us did not know Matt personally. What a wonderful young man. What a wonderful loving family. RIP dear Matt. May God bless the McNamee family at this very sad time.

  11. R.I.P. Matt – I hope you realize the special way that you touched people is short of a miracle in itself. Getting to know you through your wonderful family these past 23 months has opened my eyes so wide and helped to get me back on track with my faith. Thank you for that from the bottom of my heart! I know, with certainty, that you will watch over your mom, dad, brother and sister in law from above and help them to feel peace in their souls, once again. You will be missed by so many. God bless and may he hold you in the palm of his hand. Much love, the Benincasa Family xo

  12. Heaven gained a miraculous angel in Matty – 🙏🏻💗 our deepest condolences. Love, Trish & Roy Furbank

  13. I have never met Matt but I felt like I knew him through his Moms love… I enjoyed reading Kathys fb updates almost everyday.. I met Kathy at a time in my life that was really low and she approached me with a huge smile and very kind words.. Noone should ever experience the death of their child but on the flip side every child should experience the love that Kathy has for Matt!! R.I.P MATT💜

  14. Your pain is over now,Matt. You can rest in the arms of Jesus. My love and sincere condolences to your beautiful family. Aunt Chris and family.

  15. Matty, not everyone goes through life making life better for those around them but you certainly did. God’s plan isn’t always clear to us but the faith your family have shown these past 23 months, has instilled strength in many others and have been such an inspiration. You are at rest now and your bright memory will carry your family through the dark days without you. Rest easy, from Teresa McCullagh and family xxxx

  16. Matt, I never knew you but felt like I did through your mother’s daily posts. I know that you were loved by many and brought that love to the lives you touched. Rest In Peace and bring that joy and love as you become a guardian angel.

  17. May God bless you with peace and grace at this time. I was honored to be a part of Matt’s recent journey through TBI.

  18. Kathy and family, remember the joy and laughter that Matty brought to your family. He lived his life to the fullest and would only expect everyone else to do the same. Let’s remember Matty in Matt’s way and rejoice that he is now at peace. He is in our prayers always.

  19. Kathy and family, so sorry and please know that you are in my prayers forever. Matt is a very special young man. My heart is heavy with the sorrow you are feeling and I wish I could be there to give you a hug. We are away and disappointed that I won’t be home to attend Matt’s services.
