Tierney, Stephen A, 61, of Lansdale, PA, died at home on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 after a brief illness and debilitating stroke, with his loving wife, Peg (Knorr) at his side.

In addition to Peg, Steve is survived by his beloved children, Stephen (Jenn), Bridget (Matt) and Maggie Tierney. Steve is also survived by his siblings, all of Philadelphia, Elizabeth McCauley, MaryAnne Macartney (Bill), Kathleen Macartney, and Dennis Tierney along with his Godparents, William and Isabele (Webb) McHugh as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Elizabeth (Webb) and his eldest sister Pat Campbell (Tom) and many dear friends.

Steve’s love and devotion to his family and friends was evident in all he did.  He was born in North Philly and grew up in the Mayfair section where he was a gentle giant and known as “The Bear “ for his love of sports (hockey and football) and especially his music being lead guitarist in what was called The Rubber Band because so many members bounced in & out but Steve always stayed.  He was always quick with a joke and had the gift of good old fashioned Irish storytelling.  He was a presence at Roosevelt Playground, Sports Tavern, Schroeders and the original Chickie & Pete’s where his long held friendships remain.

Steve was always a hard and dedicated worker beginning at the early age of 12 with a newspaper stand at Frankford and Levick Sts.

After graduating from Lincoln High School, he began his 36 year career at Philco Ford in Lansdale on the assembly line and in the warehouse as part of the UAW 1695, and rose to management in the Materials Management and Planning Group retiring in 2010 when the Visteon plant closed.

Steve was loyal to and passionate about his work at Ford/Visteon. The friends and relationships he developed there over the years meant the world to him. He was also on Ford teams for bowling, softball and golf for many years.   His career brought him and his family to live in Lansdale for the past 29 years.  He quickly adapted to his new surroundings adding to his vast circle of friends.

Although not a veteran himself, he had a special interest and dedication to their heroism; in addition to his family’s history in WWII, he learned so much through his membership at the Big & Little Vets, American Legion and other local clubs such as the Cannoneers and Eagles Club where he was the treasurer for a few years.  Steve will also be well remembered for his volunteerism at St. Stan’s in running the CYO Kitchen and his many years of helping with festival set up and especially as the delivery guy and protector of the kegs at St. Stan’s Festival.

The funeral Mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave, Lansdale, PA. 19446 at 11AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2016.  Friends and Family may call beginning at 9:30 AM at the Church before Mass.   The burial will be at St. John Neumann Cemetary in Chalfont immediately following.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the PA Hero Walk (PAherowalk.com) or a special charity of your choosing.
