Barbara Murgia—4/14/2016

Image (106)Barbara Murgia, age 92, of Hatfield died on April 14th at Abington Health Lansdale Hospital. She has lived in the North Penn area since 1955.

Born in Yonkers, NY, Barbara was the daughter of the late Thomas and Marion Leon MacAdam.

A former Miss New York State, Barbara competed in the Miss America Pagent in Atlantic City in 1944. The obituary photo is of Barbara in a float in the Miss America Parade on the Atlantic City boardwalk.

She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was an active member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, volunteered at the annual Summer Festival and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was also part of a group of women that sewed costumes for the Lansdale Catholic High School plays and shows and uniforms for the cheerleaders.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years Charles Murgia and her devoted daughters Carla Murgia of Nacogdoches, TX and Janet Dunn and her husband Terence of Chalfont and her devoted sons Charles Murgia, Jr and his wife Tanya of Hilton and Ken Murgia and his wife Traci of Washington Twp., NJ. She is also survived by grandchildren, Mark, Tim, Kevin, Tom, Sarah, Rebecca, Gianna, Carson, Chaz, Morgan and Matteo and 5 great grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her sister Sally Sodano.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday evening from 7 to 9PM at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., Lansdale, PA. 19446 and also Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:45AM at St. Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale and to attend her Funeral Mass on Friday at 11AM at St. Stanislaus Church. Entombment in Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
