Thomas J. Carney, Jr., age 87, of Gwynedd Valleyand Ocean City, NJ died on January 19th at his residence.
Born in Flourtown, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Helen Shaw Carney.
He has lived in Gwynedd Valley for 30 years.
He was a graduate of Springfield High School and LaSalle University. Tom also served in the US Navy during WW2. He owned and operated the Springfield Oil Company, a fuel oil distributorship.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in North Wales.
Tom was a member of the Ocean City Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Ocean City Yacht Club, Cedarbrook Country Club and Greate Bay Country Club.
He was an avid tennis player and more recently had enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 63 years, Anne M. Callery Carney, his devoted daughter Mary Patricia Bongiovanni, wife of Dr. Andrew Bongiovanni of Ardmore; grandchildren Anne, Elizabeth and Andrew, Jr and great grandchildren Katherine, John and Henry, and his sister Helen Clemens of Conshohocken.
He was preceded by Sr. Ann Carney, SSJ, Gertrude Brown and Edward and David Carney.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Tuesday, January 26th at 11AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, 424 S. Main St., North Wales, PA, 19454 where the family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:45AM. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cem., For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, the family prefers Mass Cards.
