M. Elaine Smith (nee McIlvaine), age 79, of the East Falls section of Philadelphia, PA passed away on August 8, 2015 in her home in Ocean City, NJ.
Wife and lifelong sweetheart of Daniel, Sr. mother of Daniel Jr. (Kathryn), William (Sheila), Anne, Andrew (Elisabeth) and Mary Ellen (John), grandmother of Andrea, Peter, Gwendolyn (Michael), Moira, Elaine, Allison, Conor, Stephen and Piper.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday August 15 at 9AM at McIlvaine Funeral Home, 3711 Midvale Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, followed by an 11:00 Mass at St. Bridget’s RC Church, 3667 Midvale Ave, Philadelphia, PA. Additionally, a Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday August 21 at Noon at St. Frances Cabrini RC Church, 2nd Street & Atlantic Avenue, Ocean City, NJ.
Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Dear Mrs. Smith: I chatted with you in my dream last night and was really delighted to see and talk to you again. Your niece Kathleen mentioned when I met her in May that you were suffering from Alzheimer’s and I wondered if I might visit you in Ocean City over the summer. Clearly I missed that opportunity, but it was nice to chat with you last night. You were one of my favorite teachers at Ravenhill Academy! I remember our times at Ravenhill together so very fondly. Thank you for all of the love and dedication that you put into your teaching. I’ll keep you and your beautiful family (Hi Anne and Mary Ellen!) in my prayers. God Bless! Laura
