Winifred McGettigan Burns—7/12/2015

Winifred Cecelia McGettigan Burns died peacefully at St. Mary Manor, Lansdale, PA on July 12, 2015 with her family at her bedside.

Mrs. Burns was born in Highland Park, PA. on September 17, 1923, one of seven children of John and Anna McGettigan who predeceased her. Three brothers, Father Manus, Daniel and James predeceased her as well as two sisters, Mary and Anne Miller. She is survived by one brother, Norbert J. McGettigan and many loving  nieces and nephews.

On June 11, 1955 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Winifred married John F. Burns, a former member of the USMC, who predeceased her on October 10, 1975.

Winifred has resided at St. Mary Manor since 2006. She was employed for 10 years with Atlantic Refinery followed by twenty years as a US Government employee. Singing was Winnie’s “First Love”. She sang in choirs, for the Pope, Mother Theresa and Bishop Sheen as well as at Irish American events. She was a devout Catholic and a great lover of her Irish heritage.

Family and friends are invited to Mrs. Burn’s viewing on Friday, July 17th from 9:45 to 10:45AM in the Chapel at St. Mary Manor,  701 Lansdale Ave, Lansdale, PA. 19446 followed by her Funeral Mass at 11AM. Interment private at St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown.

For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Winifred’s name to the National St. Kateri Tekakwitha Shrine, PO Box 627, Fonda, NY 12068 would be preferred.
