Robert L. Kimmey—4/22/2015

DadRobert L. Kimmey, one of the best of the Greatest Generations, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.

Bob was 92 years old and resided with his wife, Margaret, at Elm Terrace Gardens, Lansdale. He was born on August 9, 1922 in Philadelphia, to the late John P. and Anna Reidinger Kimmey. He was also predeceased by a brother Paul of Philadelphia, sisters Louise McPhillips of Pompano Beach, Fl. and Sr. Louise SCC of Danville, PA.

He is survived by a brother John of West Palm Beach, FL.

Bob graduated from West Catholic High School in 1940 and enlisted in the US Army 3rd Infantry Division serving in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France.

While overseas, he wrote almost daily letters to Margaret Farley of Philadelphia whom he married  on January 26, 1946.

The Kimmey’s lived in Philadelphia for 11 years during which time Bob worked for Hajoca Corporation and attended evening college at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and received his degree in accounting in 1952.

They moved to Lansdale in 1957 where Bob worked in accounting for Hajoca and then Lansdale Forest Products/Line Lexington Lumber Company.

The couple have five children: Margaret (Richard) Price of Harrisburg, Paul (Suzanne) of Lancaster, Louise  (Michael) Perkins of Langhorne, Maryann (Duane) Brobst of Souderton and Robert, Jr (Karen) of Urbana, IL. They have 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mr. Kimmey was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lansdale where he was among the first ordained Eucharist  Ministers. He also taught CCD for many years.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, The Lansdale Kiwanis Club and the Knights of Columbus, Pius IX Council where he was a founding member.

In his spare time Bob connected with many friends (pre-Facebook)  on his CB radio where he was KCW7513, the “Mud Turtle.”

He worked for many years as comptroller with the William A Gum Insurance Agency in Lansdale retiring in 1983. Bob and Peg then moved to Lakeland, FL where they enjoyed 18 years of warm weather in retirement with Bob learning to love playing golf. Bob and Peg actively volunteered at Resurrection Catholic Church in Lakeland. They returned to Lansdale in 2001 to be near their children.

The Kimmey family is very grateful for the care and concern Bob received at Elm Terrace Gardens and Ascend Hospice.

Robert Kimmey was a brilliant and moral man, a grand storyteller and a strong patriarch to his large family. His influence will be felt and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Tuesday, April 28th at 11AM at St. Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA. 19446 where the family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:45AM. Interment will be private.
