Ronald E. Gravish, Sr.—1/22/2015

Ronald E. “Ed” Gravish Sr., 76, of Lansdale, passed away peacefully January 22, 2015, at Lansdale Hospital.  He was the loving husband of Lucille E. (Detweiler) Gravish and they celebrated 36 years of marriage together.  He was born in Pottsville, PA, on October 23, 1938, and was the son of Martin J. and Bertha I. (Brown) Gravish.  He grew up in St. Clair, PA, and graduated from St. Clair High School in 1956.

Ed was very proud of his 47.5 years of service with Acme Markets.  His career as produce manager spanned positions in stores throughout the metropolitan Philadelphia area.  As a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Lansdale, PA, his faith was very important to him and he served regularly as an usher.

You could always find Ed around the house taking care of his yard, his home and spoiling his pet daschund, Molly.  Ed frequently visited extended family not only at the holidays but during the tough times too.

He will be missed dearly and is survived by his wife, Lucille E. (Detweiler) Gravish; his children, Jennifer L. Gravish-Alexander and her husband, Rich Alexander, of Haddon Township, NJ, and Ronald E. Gravish, Jr., and his wife Jennifer (Fritz) Gravish of Rockville, Maryland; his grandchildren, Henry Edward and Samuel Albert Gravish; his sister, Mary Ann Cushing and her husband, John Cushing, Sr., of Vienna, VA; and his sister-in-law, Teresa Gravish, of Southampton, PA.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, Martin Gravish.  He will be remembered for his love of family, his home, his easy going disposition and playful nature, and his “words of wisdom.”

A viewing will be held on Tuesday Evening, Jan. 27 from 6-8pm and Wednesday Morning, Jan. 28 from 8:30am to 9:30am at Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 East Main Street, Lansdale, PA, 19446. A mass will follow on Wednesday Morning, Jan. 28 from 10 to 11am at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, PA, 19446.  Interment will follow in Ringtown, PA.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church at the above address or to a charity of your choice.

  1. Mike and I can’t believe this. Ron was such a presence- and a force. We will miss his playful spirit. Our heart goes out to Lucille, Jen, Ron and their families.

  2. I will never forget you ” ED”. A true genlteman, friend an inspiration to all. I learned so much from you in my years at Acme. But I learned more from you in other ways. Will never forget our ” coffee breaks ” in the old Lansdale and Conshy stores. I am deeply saddened of your passing, but extremely blessed to have known you. May God Bless you and your beautiful family. I will miss you ” brothers “. Joe Higgins
