William Kobasa—1/28/14

William Kobasa, age 92, formerly a lifelong resident of Lansdale passed away on Tuesday, January 28th at the Lutheran Community of Telford. He and his wife Marion would have observed their 67th wedding anniversary on June 7th of this year.

Born February 16, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA. he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Kobasa. He was a graduate of Lansdale High School, class of 1939 and attended Temple University School of Business for two years. He then served for four years in the US Army Air Corps during WW2.

Before retiring, Mr Kobasa was an inside salesman for the Herman Goldner, Co. Soon after his retirement, he served for four years as Lansdale Borough Tax Collector.

An active participant in community service, he was a member of the Lansdale Jaycees and the Lansdale Lions Club and served one term on Lansdale Borough Council. He also was part of a group of fathers who started the North Penn Valley Community Baseball League for boys ages 13 to 15.

A role model for his two sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren, he will be missed by all.

Mr. Kobasa was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Russian Orthodox Church in Philadelphia.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons Gerald Kobasa and his wife Geri of Milford, DE and Gregory Kobasa and his wife Dottie of Telford; grandchildren Laurie Moorman (Travis), Leslie Mergner (Chris), Kristin Vaszily (John), Kevin Kobasa  (Ali) and Keith Kobasa (Kristen) and great grandchildren Emma and Kylie Moorman, Alex and Lila Mergner and Nathan and Zachary Vaszily . Also surviving are brothers Alex Kobasa and his wife Helen of Towamencin and Walter Kobasa and his wife Vera of Lansdale and sister in law Anne Kobasa of Towamencin and his former daughter in law Prudence Albright. Mr. Kobasa was preceded in death by his brother Daniel Kobasa.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday evening Jan. 31st from 6 to 8PM and Saturday morning from 9 to 9:30AM at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., Lansdale, PA. 19446 and to attend his Funeral Service at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 9:30AM. Interment Whitemarsh Memorial Park.  For those desiring, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in William’s memory to the Lutheran Community of Telford, 12 Lutheran Home Drive, Telford, PA. 18969 would be preferred.
